Just choose a more muted shade of black, such as a slate gray or a grey black - which is a great color between black and grey that many cosmetics companies are now offering.

Now that you know what color to use for eyeliner, here's the technique for applying it. Start with a sharp eyeliner pencil, lining the rim of your eye as close to the lower row of eyelashes as you can get without getting any of the cosmetic in your eye.

With a sponge-tipped cosmetics smudger, gently smudge the line you created using a gentle horizontal back and forth movement. You should always smudge your eyeliner at least a little bit - more if you want it more dramatic, or smokey looking. Eyeliner that has not been smudged looks to artificial and too severe. Without any further explanation, it is apparent and very much understood that there are several specified ingredients in such cosmetics that function like antigens or trigger substances for allergic reactions, like fragrances and preservatives.

Creams and ointments specifically manufactured to treat cosmetics allergy are available without prescriptions through retailers and drug stores.

Most of these medications contain cortisone in the form of hydrocortisone acetate and hydrocortisone. Cortisones help curtail redness, swelling and itching during the onset of cosmetics allergy symptoms.

In severe cases, doctors prescribe extra-strong medications and ointments that can effectively and immediately relieve the allergy. Antibiotics are needed if blisters in the skin, which is caused by cosmetics allergy, cracks and becomes infected.

How to prevent cosmetics allergy

There are some recommended measures that can help you prevent contracting cosmetics allergy. Take note of the following ways.

- Before using any cosmetic products, read its labels. Look out for active ingredients that can obviously trigger an allergic reaction to your skin. Find products or alternatives that do not contain such ingredients.
- Perform mini-patch tests to determine if a new cosmetic product is too strong for your skin. It is done by rubbing your wrist with the products and observing for any redness or recatio within 24 hours.
- When buying cosmetics, pick up those that contain very simple cosmetic formulas.
- When wearing perfume, apply it on your clothes, not in your skin.

It would do you no harm if you take several precautions to avoid getting cosmetics allergy. Prevention is much better that treatments. Remember, cosmetic allergy, just like any other allergies, is only treatable, not curable.

The nose may be excessively large (or small), crooked, or may contain an unwanted hump or other deformity. Rhinoplasty is a delicate operation, and requires careful planning and meticulous technique. The end result, however, can be extremely gratifying for both patient and surgeon.

Surgical Philosophy:

It is important to remember that rhinoplasty surgery is part art and part science. The artistic part involves the surgeon listening to his or her patient's desires for improvement, and then meshing these desires with his own aesthetic standards and skill to obtain the best possible result. The goal is to create an attractive, aesthetic nose that is in balance with the face, but will also be natural-looking. The science of rhinoplasty involves creating a nose that will withstand the test of time and maintain its structural integrity, as well as its functionality as an organ of respiration.

The Rhinoplasty Consultation:

Computer imaging is a very useful tool that is often used to enhance patient understanding and to set realistic goals. Using the computer, the surgeon is able to show the rhinoplasty patients what they may look like after surgery, and this generally leads to greater satisfaction with the results.

In planning your rhinoplasty, it is important to take into consideration the need for any functional surgery to correct blocked breathing passages in the nose. Experienced rhinoplasty surgeons are equally comfortable with an open or endonasal approach, and will choose whichever approach best suits your nose.

The rhinoplasty procedure may take from one to three hours, and is usually performed on an outpatient basis. Most rhinoplasty patients will go home that afternoon. Anesthesia for the surgery is usually a general anesthesia or IV sedation, depending on patient preference and length of the procedure.

Recovery:

Upon awakening from surgery, your nose will be covered with a firm external splint, which functions to hold the nasal bones in place and to protect the nose. The splint will remain in place for one week. While pain is normally quite minimal, all patients receive pain medication, as well as a brief course of antibiotics and medication to reduce swelling. Breathing is generally stuffy the first night, but the next day you, during the post-op visit, a small bit of gauze is removed from the nostrils. You should then be able to breathe comfortably.

Many patients are able to return to work or school after two to three days, however most prefer to take a week of vacation around the time of surgery. While you should expect some post-surgery swelling and occasional bruising after rhinoplasty, your nose will be very presentable at one week. Post-operative swelling or edema will largely resolve over the first month, however you may notice subtle changes for up to 3 months and occasionally up to one year after surgery.

BatWings: The Dreaded Hanging Arm Skin After WLS

Gastric-bypass surgery is only the first step many morbidly obese patients take in their total body make overs. One residue of massive weight loss is the dreaded ?bat-wings?. You know what I?m talking about - that upper arm skin which hangs like bat wings if you spread your arms wide ready for flight. Wave your hand and the bat-wing waves too. For some after massive weight loss there is so much skin it?s difficult to find shirts with sleeves that fit, and worse, it?s embarrassing to wear sleeveless shirts.

What to do?

Exercise:

The first line of defense is to do weight or strength training during the phase of rapid weight loss. Many patients report satisfactory skin shrinkage of the upper arms when they?ve incorporated light exercise during weight loss. Bicep curls and tricep pulldowns are the best exercises for firming upper arms. Arm training takes minimal equipment (2 light dumbbells 3-5 lbs each) and limited space. It should be noted, the younger the patient and the fewer times they?ve seen significant weight change, the better chance they have of toning and shaping their arms with exercise. Now, that doesn?t let older patients off the hook for doing exercise - it just gives a bit more encouragement for younger people who undergo weight loss surgery.

Liposuction:

The next, but not very plausible option is liposuction. Lipo is only appropriate when there is a lot of fat and the skin is tight. The lipo sucks out the fat and allows the skin to shrink. This isn?t plausible for most WLS patients because they?ve already lost the fat leaving an empty balloon of upper arm skin.

Brachioplasty:

The last resort is the $5,000 arm lift called brachioplasty Brachioplasty is a surgical procedure that eliminates excess skin from the upper arm.

Incisions and Scars in Arm Lift

Scars are the greatest drawback of this operation. They will extend from the armpit to the elbow, along the inside of the arm. This operation exchanges one cosmetic problem (loose skin) for another (scars). In general, those with very loose saggy skin are most likely to find this exchange worthwhile. Those with a small amount of looseness will probably not want the scars.

Collagen Injection

Collagen injection is a type of cosmetic procedure that augments skin and soft tissue to make them firmer and younger looking. The benefits of collagen injections are that collagen is a natural substance to be in the body so it incorporates with the body and doesn?t degrade as quickly over time, there aren?t serious complications or side effects, and it is a non-invasive procedure. Collagen injections are used to improve unsightly scars and fill in cheeks that have sunken in.

Different types of collagen fillers have different advantages. Zyderm is a bovine collagen that lasts for six to ten months and is used for shallow scars.

Autologen is a filler made from autologous collagen which resists enzymatic degradation and allergic reactions and has been shown to last for over a year. Similarly, Isolagen is autologous collagen taken from the patient and prepared for intradermal injection. Isolagen has not been fully tested yet. AlloDerm is, in fact, not an injection at all, but is a dermal sheet and has been used mostly for burn victims and patients undergoing oral surgery.

Finally there are fat injections. These take time and careful preparation before they can be used. The fat is removed from a region such as the abdomen, thighs, knees, or backside. The fat has to be purified, washed, separated, centrifuged and prepared before use.

Cosmetic acne is more rash-like and generally made up of tiny pinkish or flesh-colored bumps. Cosmetic Surgery was first known to have been performed in Roman times. The Romans had the ability to perform simple procedures such as repairing damaged ears, in modern times referred to as Otoplasty, this is one of the most simple of procedures. One report discusses a patient getting his earlobes repaired after years of wearing heavy earrings. The excess lobes were trimmed and the hole sewn together. One of the more expensive plastic surgeries performed at the time, the removal of branding and scars, was a commonly executed procedure. Freed slaves paid a high price indeed for this type of surgery. It was felt that this common practice reduced the stigma of having been a slave in this ancient times.

In ancient India physicians were able to use skin graft reconstruction techniques as early as 800 B.C. The Charaka-Sanhita and the Sushruta-Sanhita are among the oldest known manuscripts on Ayurveda (the Indian science of medicine). Chronologically speaking, the Charaka-Sanhita is believed to be the earliest work, and deals with medicine proper and containing a few passages on surgery. The Sushruta-Sanhita, a work of the early centuries of the Christian era, mainly deals with surgical knowledge rather than medicine. The extant Sushruta-Sanhita is, according to its commentator Dalhanacharya (of twelth century AD), a amendment by Nagarjuna. The plastic operations carried out by the Boinia brothers are described in a book published in 1568 by Fioravanti, a doctor of Bologna, Italy.

At the hands of Gasparo Tagliacozzi (1546-99), a professor of surgery and of anatomy at the Bologna University, that plastic surgery attained wide fame in Europe. His book De curtorum chirurgia per insitionem (The surgery of defects by implantation), printed in 1597, was the first scientific composition on plastic surgery. Tagliacozzi had described a method of substitution of the nose by skin from the arm and of replacement of the ears and lips, demonstrating his work throughout his manuscript by way of a large number of illustrations.

The Church dignitaries of the time regarded cosmetic surgery as an interference in the affairs of the Almighty. After his death they not only excommunicated Tagliacozzi, but also had his corpse exhumed from its church grave, and placed it in unconsecrated ground. The great Voltaire (1694-1778) wrote a satirical poem on Tagliacozzi and his operation on the nose, using flap from the buttocks.

However, due to the many dangers of surgery in those times, cosmetic surgery was rarely performed until around the 1900?s. The United States first plastic surgeon was Dr. John Peter Mettauer, born in Virginia in 1787, who in 1827 performed the first cleft palate surgery on record with instruments he himself designed.

The operation itself took about one and a half hours and I was able to have a cup of tea, don dark glasses and go home. I was given pain killers, antibiotics and eye ointment .

The painkillers were hardly needed. Although very bruised and swollen when I arrived home, my husband could see a remarkable difference in that the operation had completely removed my eye bags and wrinkles around the eyes. After the bruising and swelling finally went down (less than a week) the difference was amazing. I could see better and I looked so much younger. I was absolutely delighted. It set me off.

I was worried about my developing jowels. There was no doubt about it ? the cosmetic surgery loomed. I contacted the same agent I had seen before, and she showed me how my face would look after surgery. This time I opted for a full face lift. The operation took 4 hours and this was done under general anaesthetic. I must admit I suffered a lot of bruising - more than most and it took about a week to settle down but after fortnight I was transformed. I found chewing sugar free dental gum useful, it helped me exercise my jaw and kept things moving. I looked better, felt better and started to look after myself more. It gave me the incentive to start exercising again. People were complimenting me on how well I looked. The incision lines were in well hidden places in my hair line and behind my ears, so there was no way anyone could actually tell that I had undergone surgery.

I was told the eye surgery would last 7 years but it is 15 years now and they still look good. Just a very slight wrinkling on the left side, which is easily correct with makeup. I have regularly used creams to keep my skin in the best possible condition. I know that people say that a cheap cream is as good as an expensive one but I refute that totally. I have bought most of the creams on the market and find that Syence is by far the most effective. This is one of the few creams that has scientifically documented proof that it thickens the skin ? useful in the more mature lady! A good balanced diet of fresh organic fruit, vegetables and olive oil add to a healthy skin, which will always help set you on a good road to quick recovery.

Corrective Laser Eye Surgery

Lasers are used to reshape the tissues located on the underlying or stromal layer of the cornea, to correct vision. There are two types of corrective laser eye surgery - PRK or Photo Refractive Keratectomy and LASIK or Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. Each of these procedures uses a different technique.

Photo Refractive Keratectomy or PRK

In PRK, the epithelium of the cornea is manually scraped away and an excimer laser corrects vision. The epithelium layer grows back later. This method involves a longer recovery period and more discomfort during healing than with LASIK. PRK is less risky when compared to LASIK because it does not involve cutting the cornea.

Laser Assisted Sub-Epithelial Keratomileusis or LASEK

LASEK is an advanced form of PRK that uses alcohol in a solution to first soften then remove the epithelium. After reshaping the stroma with excimer laser, the epithelium is replaced. The advantage of LASEK over PRK is that the healing process is hastened.

Epi-LASEK

This method is a further advancement on LASEK. It uses a separator to preserve a living layer of the epithelium. This layer is replaced after an excimer laser corrects vision. Discomfort and healing time are much less in Epi-LASEK, as compared to LASEK.

LASIK or Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis

Unlike the PRK techniques, vision is immediately corrected. Some blurriness may be present for the first 24 hours but will improve over time.

Custom Vue LASIK

This method is very similar to LASIK. The only difference lies in the use of an advanced software called Wavefront. In this procedure, the vision is measured by mapping the optical system, using technology that is 25% more accurate than traditional methods. The excimer laser is then guided by the software to make necessary changes to the stroma.

Custom Intra LASIK

I continually remind my clients of the importance of applying makeup to a clean, fresh face. Cleansing twice a day with a gentle, non-drying cleanser is best. Avoid using soap on your face. Soap has a tendency to strip the skin of its natural oils and leave the skin much too dry. Over drying the skin can lead to many undesirable consequences, like flaking skin, a burning sensation, pre-mature fine lines and wrinkles and even acne in some cases.

The next step is moisturization. However, many women, especially those with oily skin, have a tendency to skip the moisture step. Oil and moisture (hydration) are not the same. Moisture seals the skin and protects it from the environment. It keeps the skin from flaking and chaffing as well as giving the skin a smooth appearance and soft texture necessary for laying your makeup well. It is also a good idea to use a product with an SPF of at least 15 every day of the year.

The next step is eye cream. Although this step is optional, I highly recommend it. The skin around the eyes is delicate. There are very few oil glands there which increases dryness, leaving your concealer or foundation cake-like and crackling. Eye cream deposits moisture to this otherwise barren area, helping to reduce the signs of aging as well as provide a smooth canvas for your makeup.

Occasionally, throughout the year, we may find that our skin needs extra hydration. It is perfectly okay and highly recommended to supplement your every day moisturizer with an extra hydrating cream or lotion. Revision rhinoplasty is widely considered one the more complex procedures in plastic surgery, and requires careful planning and realistic objectives. The procedure may involve grafting of cartilage or other materials to restructure and strengthen the nose, as well as improve breathing.

A key first step with revision rhinoplasty patients is to identify the problems. Usually, patients point out the obvious concerns: a persistent hump, a scooped out bridge or saddle-nose deformity, an overly wide tip, etc. Other problems require a careful physical examination and may include alar retraction, persistent deviated septum, nasal valve collapse, scar tissue, etc.

Once the patient's concerns are identified, along with other issues that may require correction, a realistic surgical plan is formulated. He is one of a select group of surgeons to complete a prestigious Fellowship in Facial Plastic Surgery under the auspices of the AAFPRS. Raised in Northern California, Dr. Amir attended UCSD, where he was appointed a regents scholar and graduated summa cum laude. He went on to attend medical school at Pen University, one of our nation's top medical schools. Dr. Amir then completed a five year surgical residency in Otolaryngology- at UIC in Chicago, which included intensive training in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck and an additional year of fellowship at the renowned Rousso Facial Plastic Surgery Clinic in Birmingham.
